Yeah, some aspects of life are quite Sisyphean.
In this case, hosting this website (and consequently the other stuff I have in the same host)
Yeah, yet another webhost move.
So, almost as soon as I commented on the webhost I had changed to the host went down for two or three days.
Then came back up for two days and promptly made like a tree and fucked off.
And didn’t return for…hasn’t returned yet really.
Ah, crap. A cheap host that lasted 3 months. Normally I get at least 6 months out of them.
Today while browsing namecheap, pondering if I was going to renew the vortex69.icu domain or not, I noticed they had a promotion, USD$0.99 for the first year of a domain.
So I found the cheapest domain suffix to renew (.cyou, around 5 dollars per year) and grabbed it. I won’t be using it for this site, but I’ll use it for other stuff I have. And it’s useful since some hosts require you to have a top level domain that isn’t one of the free ones.
Now, finding the host…went to my usual cheap hosting hunting ground (Webhostingtalk’s “Shared hosting offers” section) and found a new host.
Only 1GB of space, I always like at least 2GB, but I already changed host 2 times in the span of a year (3 with this one), so I’m not about to spend more money than the bare minimum.
1GB of space, measly 25GB of bandwidth, but unlimited add-on domains.
Hell yeah, we’re back to vortex69.eu.org !
So, I hope this host holds on for at least the full year.
If life goes the way I want it (it never does, does it?), I’ll eventually get something better, but right now, I’m sparing in my hobbies to save a bit of money.
Yeah, sure…spending 20-30€ for a year of hosting isn’t really much, but if I gave myself permission to do that I would end up spending the same 20-30€ or less in a bunch of other crap and 30 multiplied by 10, 20, 30…is a lot of money as far as my hobby budget is concerned.
And since having a website is not my main hobby, it ranks low in the spending priority.
So, TL;DR: changed webhost for the 3rd time in the last 12 months if I’m not mistaken and the site is back at the old URL.
That is all for now.
