The never-ending saga continues never ending…
This is technically old news as the host change was done a couple of months ago, but I feel like writing a bit.
So, on with the story.
After days of downtime on the stupidly cheap host I was using, I decided to change webhost, for the 1xxth time.
It’s good that the payment cycle was close to the end (4 or 5 months left) or I would have stayed there.
Off I went to webhostingtalk.com, into the “Shared Hosting Offers” section.
Found a few that covered my requirements. (>=2GB of space; >=50GB of traffic; under USD$10 a year)
Among the few there was one where the company also had some nice offers on VPSs (which is something I plan on getting…when I can justify the expense)
OK, I’ll go with them (they weren’t even the cheapest of the cheap), I’ll get an idea for the service quality, uptime and all that and when I feel like I’ll get a VPS with them (although in reality the quality between shared hosting and VPS could fluctuate wildly, they are not connected in any way).
Off to an auspicious start!
Forgot to save the password for the client area. No problem, don’t really need it right now…I’ll recover it later.
Let me go into cPanel and…
Ohh…
Ohh…
Ohh…
That wasn’t clear on the plan page…

Well, nothing was clear on the plan page, but why in the nine hells would I need 10GB of space, 100GB of traffic for only one domain?
So, yeah, that explains why the site is no longer at vortex69.eu.org but at vortex69.icu.
I would have preferred 1-4 add-on domains, but I can live with that…I already had the domain anyway.
Time passes and I remembered that I forgot the client area details.
Better take care of that before I need to renew or need some other thing only accessible there. (like subscribing to the VPS…which I was planning to do as a Christmas present for myself)
I also wanted to check if there was an option to increase the number of add-on domains.

Forgot Password?
Yeah, I did, bro. Gimme a new one.

Nice…thank you “Lost password” form!
Now we (I) wait…
And wait…
And wait…
2 hours later, no e-mail.
Let me check the spam folders (both on Thunderbird and web Gmail)
No sign of the e-mail.
“Lost password” form, I trusted you!!!
Over the next two weeks I kept trying, maybe it was a temporary glitch on the webhost’s site.
Fuck, let me contact them.
Contact form…

Protip: the contact form also doesn’t work. As I feared.
Creates the ticket, but seemingly doesn’t e-mail/warn the support people.
Or they don’t like me so haven’t responded in over a week.
Or they can’t figure out the problem with the lost password thingie so they just ignored me.
So, yeah, another webhost change will occur in a few months.
Which is kinda dumb, this host (other than only hosting 1 domain and the lost password form not working) has covered my needs, has been working great, good uptime, decent speed.
But yeah, they lost a client pretty quickly, not that I’m a big spender or anything, but I was planning on getting a 3GB VPS with them by the end of the year and now…not anymore.
I guess that ends the rant
See ya next rant!
