Recently I learned…
…that 7-zip has some trouble with .tar.gz files.
As I posted earlier I moved web hosting and since it was a sudden unexpected move the most recent backup was a few days old, but it’s not like I post much so it was probably fine.
As every time I need a backup, I was thankful I do automatic backups hosted offsite (two times a week, to Dropbox in this case)
So I grabbed the most recent backup, which by now was one week old and extracted it.
Absent mindedly uploaded the files by ftp while I created the mysql databases and users, when the upload finished I went to the site URL and…nothing worked.
Lazarus IDE
Have you ever used Pascal? (I have)
Do you wish it could make modern GUI programs? (I do)
Are you too poor for whatever Delphi is called now? (I am)
Do you like to make software that doesn’t need a framework (Java, .NET) to run? (I do)
Worry not, a bunch of crazy open source guys have you covered:

Retro style, part 3 – Linux command line goodness
So, here’s the next instalment of the boring, never ending saga.
This one should be short, it’s mostly an update on stuff.

Jurassic Smartphone – Android torrenting Apps
So, here’s the next instalment in my series of adventures LARPing as a 80s nerd.
Sorry bro, I need to see pictures of things (mostly big breasted midgets, of course  ), the command line doesn’t cut it.
So I sometimes use my smartphone.

Would ya look at that?
So last post (Software nostalgia; towards the end), I talked about Freebar that is written in VB6 (which is long dead), VB6 not installing on Windows 7 so I couldn’t open the Freebar project and the free alternative to VB6 being dead, so I couldn’t try to remake Freebar using the old code base.

Software nostalgia
First:
I’m a bit late, but Merry Christmas and Happy new year. (he says, almost in February)
Now…
You want to know what piece of software I suddenly feel nostalgic for?
No?
What do I care.
The Office shortcut bar.

The old, the older and the new
This is just a little rant about text editors/word processors.
Which is kinda strange as most of my writing/note taking is done with pen and paper, but as of late I’ve been doing pen and paper in parallel with digital. (took me long enough; honestly I simply dislike the idea, that’s why I haven’t adopted it for the last 17 years)
But much like with stationery, I have a bit of a thing for text editors and word processors.
So, let’s start this useless rant.

My old classic is reborn
So, back when I was in school in programming class (IT in high school, dunno how it is in other countries, but here there are these courses in public school if you want to get specific knowledge of something before college, instead of going to 10th-12th grade of a generic curriculum, you can for 10th-12th grade in IT or Media and a few others, I think they have ended those since, pity)…
As I was saying…

That’s it, I’m weeabooing to the max.
So, by now it’s well established that I’m a bit of a weeaboo (wapanese, whichever you prefer).
But despite the appearances I’m not all that much of a weeaboo (was a bit worse when I was younger), I may enjoy various forms of entertainment media out of Japan (manga, anime, VNs, eroges) and would sincerely love to visit Japan for a month or two (or maybe three or four; between the otaku weeabooing and driving/hiking to the boonies it would be a probably awesome experience…), I’m still very…mild about it.
Screenshot programs.
Hey, as can be seen, I like to cover a wide array of stuff in this site.
This might become a bit of a ever changing post, as I may continue trying new programs as I find limitations on the one I’m using at the moment.
So, in my reviews of VNs, I published some screenshots.
Screencapture software is always a very subjective and broad matter. (strangely, one would think it would be a fairly mundane subject)
