New theme!
After years using what was pretty much the default theme from a wordpress theme generator, I finally changed the theme!
To another nearly default theme from a wordpress theme generator.
But it’s a change. (for worse or better is still an open question, but a change nonetheless)
Should be better as this theme is based on “twenty ten” and I was having some trouble with some add-ons due to that.
I call it DarkMind, take that, I’m edgy as fuck. (I better be, thought hard about “What name would I give this theme if I was a pretentious web-designer emo.”)
Last post I said I would be ranting a bit more about eroges/VNs in the future.
Yes, I will.
A taste of my “To Do” List of VNs (adult oriented or not):
Paca Plus (just for the sheer WTF feeling of it):
Yandere:
There are more, I just don’t feel like listing them. And the two I listed are quite striking, any other game would pale compared to them.
God dang youtube…
So, as usual when I have more free time than useful things to do, I went on youtube and looked at the “Recommended” videos list, which in my case is (normally) comprised of all kinds of DIY videos, some bushcraft videos, some political videos and some other topics.
Not today my son, not today.
Today it was all Mr. Bean, ALL OF IT!!
“Damn, you must have watched a fscking marathon of Mr. Bean in the last days, no?”
Nope, two videos, TWO.
Get out of here S.T.A.L.K.E.R….
Yeah, I’ve been replaying S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. (I blame /k/)
And it’s as insipid as I remember.
Which given the overall theme/world the game takes place in is actually a good thing.
Moments of complete boredom splashed with silent desperation and lack of hope.
Areas like Lab X-18, where it is 90% anticipation of doom, 10% some actual threat.
And of course the drab Soviet building style that everyone, everywhere in the world is actually familiar with (at least some distant ‘cousin’ of it), they just don’t admit it and call it “soviet style”, that inherently inspires feelings of hopelessness.
And when I finish playing this, I will (finally!) play the next two games (Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat) which I actually never even touched. (despite really liking SoC)
And this is all, I just felt like writing something.
So I want to be a writer…
(no, I don’t)
But as I probably already alluded to somewhere in the blog/site/webthingie, I like to imagine stuff, hence most of my (now very dead) video game projects had quite a ratio of “plan pages” vs “work done”.
What am I up to now?
Nothing that will ever see the light of day, because:
- Writing in my native language (in which I astonishingly have a less intricate vocabulary than in English, and my english is by no means an example to anyone)
- I’m doing it just for fun
So what is it?
So I’ve been re-watching Metalocalypse
Had only watched the first two seasons, the third season felt kind of boring at the time.
So, now a couple of years later, I’m re-watching the whole thing.
And I’m right now laughing my ass off at the “Sexual harassment seminar” on the 6th episode of the third season.
Because that IS how sexual harassment works nowadays.
Male: “Is that a new belt?”
Female: “Yes, it is.”
Male: “It looks very good.”
*zaaaapp* that’s sexual harassment
And so on and so forth, just watch the video.
Well, that’s all for now, will probably post a thing or two about video games (you know, one of my Ranty Rants™©®) in a couple of days.
Will post something else that no one really cares about in a couple of hours, probably.
Another day…is today it seems
Last post I mentioned a motherboard that died an interesting death, it wasn’t that interesting, just kinda funny.
But first the Radeon 9200 did not start working just by changing the capacitor. I had it on a box for over a year, so I didn’t quite remember the problem it had, it was the good old garbled output that normally means something on the ram/gpu went apeshit. Pity.
The story on the motherboard goes like this (bullet point list edition):
- Watching some asian (either Japanese or South Korean, don’t remember) horror film using the 2nd PC.
- Suddenly a high pitched noise enters my brain, one of those high pitch noises that are high pitched enough to take quite a few seconds to get the direction.
- As I finally get it’s coming from the 2nd pc, I approach it and…
- As I’m pressing the power button to turn it off, it turns off by itself.
Aaaannnnddddd….it’s dead. (read that with the voice of the South Park bank guy)
Teh 2nd box
So, some 3 years ago I posted about digging up some old computer parts out of boxes, which resulted on a Pentium 3 with 192MB of RAM that constantly crashed.
This is technically old news, but somewhere in 2012 I ended up getting a nice computer for free (well, nice for a 2nd box for some torrenting and whatnot), a Pentium 4 1.7GHz with 512MB of RAM. (yeah, socket 423 and Rambus, can’t really upgrade it at an acceptable cost for the performance gain)
To be honest it was good enough for most of my late night browsing and xvid movie/anime watching.
That is until the old Radeon 9200 died.
And now…
…I feel like an idiot.
So I used dot.tk and now am using eu.org (which I found after much search), but it never occurred to me to use FreeDNS ( http://freedns.afraid.org , where I have an account ever since the dinosaurs left the earth, or about 2003/2004), for some reason I didn’t even remember them.
Until today I went to check my subdomain that links to my dynamic ip and noticed this: “A”
“Waiddaminute…A records mean I can just configure it to my webserver ip, innit?”, followed by “Oh, see there’s CNAME, NS and all the others. Let me give it a try.”
vortex69.qc.to A 144.76.???.???
Go to cPanel on the server, add vortex69.qc.to as a domain, and…fucking works.
Although as a strictly free solution it’s more limited than, say, ClouDNS + eu.org, as you can use only 5 hostnames on a free account (ClouDNS is unlimited records and 3 domains), on the plus side it’s more centralized, also easier and faster to get to work (no much waiting for DNS to propagate) and very importantly, it has one less dot (yes, I once found a free web host that pretty much told me my eu.org sub-domain was invalid, too many dots, it was correct of course but was interestingly blunt about it).
(and speaking of that I found a free web host that forbids you from simply pointing an A record to their server, first time I’ve seen that honestly)
And…
Just finished reading “Metro Survive”.
Pretty good, if you like this kind of story. (natural disaster, shit hits the fan and it’s time to survive)
Nice for such a short story (two volumes), makes you think about things, not only the obvious “What would I do if SHTF?”, but also about…let’s say, your priorities in life.
If I have any criticism to give it is that the end is just too perfect, too just, which is somewhat unrealistic. In the story both good and bad guys have bad stuff happen to them along the way, but in the end there’s the ever expectable ending of: ‘Good Guys’ end up great, ‘Bad Guys’ not so much. Too much karmic justice going around in that manga world.
And it manages to make you laugh (or at least smile) when the train guy takes his hat off which he hadn’t taken off the whole time.
So that’s a 6.5/10.
And back for another rant.
So, as by now has been established I like reading manga and watching anime (among lots of other things).
Since I have already written some posts about my latest manga reading, I guess it leaves you wondering: “So, what was the last anime you watched, since your last post about the topic?”
Nearly nothing, I know I haven’t watched anything in 2013 that I hadn’t watched before, I watched something in 2012 (I can remember watching “Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai”, but can’t recall much more than that).
