Lazarus IDE
Have you ever used Pascal? (I have)
Do you wish it could make modern GUI programs? (I do)
Are you too poor for whatever Delphi is called now? (I am)
Do you like to make software that doesn’t need a framework (Java, .NET) to run? (I do)
Worry not, a bunch of crazy open source guys have you covered:

SharpDevelop
For some reason, my favourite IDE.
Well, tied with Microsoft’s Visual Studio.
Then again, I’m not much of a programmer, just small snippets of code, basic day to day use programs, etc.
Digital painting/drawing programs
Krita:
Slow as all hell in my PC at least, but seems pretty robust.
MyPaint:
http://mypaint.intilinux.com/ now at http://mypaint.org/
Very barebones GUI (in my opinion), but fast and decent feature wise.
SmoothDraw:
Much like MyPaint, basic GUI, but with a good performance; seems to have less features than MyPaint.
(added: Oct/2016)
FireAlpaca:
I’ve known it for a while, actually I knew it when I first wrote this post, for some reason I forgot to include it, must have wanted all the alpacaey goodness for myself.
It’s a drawing software, that has an alpaca as mascot.
Great performance and relatively lightweight.
Even has an easy to use vanishing point feature so you get the perspective right.
My go-to for quick doodling (I suck at drawing, doodling is as far as I go)
C# Yellow Book
I rarely post on the free stuff section, today is one of those rare days.
C# Yellow Book
http://www.robmiles.com/c-yellow-book/
Most people interested in C# (pretend it’s C Sharp) probably already saw a link to this free book floating around on the web. I still haven’t read it – read only maybe 10 pages, should print it – and it seems nice.
So…download it and read it, the worst that can happen is that you end up wasting a couple of hours trying to educate yourself, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on your life philosophy.
CloudFlare
Helping my most visited site (~1k uniques/day) run on a free webhost, so it must be good.
Dropbox.com
I normally use it to backup my project files and other misc files.
MaPZone2
Seamless texture generator by Allegorithmic, free, unfortunately it seems to be abandoned, but still works pretty well.
Wings 3d
One word: minimalistic.
Feature wise it’s lacking a lot, but the minimalistic approach makes me like it.
If someone wonders why I haven’t posted blender. That’s because…fuck you! that’s why! ie. I like blender for what it wants to be – free and feature rich -, but hate it for what it actually is – 99.9% of the community behind it are blind fanatics and the interface…god…the interface!! – but I’ll leave that for a future rant.
Sculptris
Just by chance I remembered this one.
Pretty nice if you want to start learning 3D sculpting without robbing a bank first.
*edit*
Now acquired by Pixologic. You might want to think about the best bank to rob…
