Small rant: State of Decay
This is just a really quick, simple rant.
State of Decay is probably my favourite zombie video game.
But there is one thing that annoys me in the game, one of those pet peeves you know.
The backpacks.
(yes, this is a very nitpicking rant, I’m only writing because I’m bored.)
Guess I’m lucky…or not
So, my (very) out dated computer finally received a slight upgrade.
From an old Core2Duo E6400 (dual core) to an equally old Xeon X3210 (pretty much the same cpu, except it’s a quad core).
Merry Christmas!
Well, still the 24th of December, but you know, I had to post something.
I’ve decided to use this website as a “catch all” blog/website for me.
Which means I’ll start writing about more stuff…knives/pocket knives, stationery stuff, flashlights.
You know, stuff.
Won’t have much to speak about as…well…things aren’t expensive, it’s me who doesn’t earn much.
A reason for not having done this earlier is that I know I’m a bit of an odd character and the mix of very distinct things might…damage my internet presence. (ah, such a bold move may drop my readership from 0 people to…huh, wait!…moving on)
Who knows, people might notice I’m kinda crazy and call the loony van.
Although I might add I won’t go full blown crazy (sounding, I’m well grounded after all is said and done), I have another blog for that. (as I said I am an odd character, I wasn’t joking)
So that’s all for now.
Oh, Merry Christmas and happy new year.
Youtube copyright claims, pt3
Continuation of this.
I f*cking quit…
So, I removed the formerly CC-BY track and put another one in it’s place.
And…
Always learning.
So thanks to the matter I mentioned on my previous post, I ended up having to change the music and re-render the video (2 years since the last render)
In those 2 years I changed graphic card 2 times, started with a 8500GT, then I had an HD3850 temporarily, then back to the 8500GT and finally a year ago changed to an HD7750.
With the changes, gone was CUDA acceleration, but in it’s place I had OpenCL.
Youtube copyright claims, pt2
So, sometime ago I alluded to the fact that I did “no budget” short films with a friend or two to waste free time.
I also whined like hell about youtube’s copyright ‘system’
And today, simply by chance I logged in into the youtube account I use for the shorts.
DX studio
So, I was roaming around the interwebs and came across this game engine (to be honest, I believe I came across it back when I first found Unity too).
Looked at the price for the “Pro” version and it was…0€, the right price for my wallet.
It also had real time shadows (which I really wanted to play around with).
So I ‘bought’ it!
My impressions?
Wait?! Is that?!…
Is it?
Unity UI?
Really?
2 major versions and (at least) 4 years later?
When I first used Unity on version 2.6.1 they were already talking about it, everyone thought it would come in v3, nope…OK, v4 then? Nope.
Seems like it’ll be there on 5 (OK…4 and half plus a tenth), not too bad.
Well…
I know I’ll never finish a game, but I’m going to install the beta just to check it out.
PS: I haven’t followed Unity for a while (haven’t installed any of the 4.x versions and only installed 3.0 and maybe the next two versions). But was looking at the Unity 5 features and selling points and it seems they – finally – went SpeedTree. Not that I will benefit from it (I finally accepted the reality that I don’t have the knowledge nor the talent needed to make a game). Also it seems to be subscription only at USD$19.99/month (why don’t they just round it to USD$20?)
Just because all my projects were dropped…
(this post was written in July/August, which means some three months ago. I still haven’t worked much on the project. I’m mostly posting to show I’m still alive)
…it doesn’t mean I don’t still have fun coming up with new ones.
Although I can’t help but feel I’m getting old and so should know better than to come up with all those projects that I don’t intend to ever finish.
Back to 2003/2004, when I first got in my head that I would one day make a video game, at the time I had a friend in school (he’s my game development partner if there ever was one, lol) who was quite the SNES JRPG fanatic (Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Zelda, Breath of Fire; you know, the classics). Me, on the other hand, while I liked RPGs I hadn’t played many from the SNES days.
This is going to be a bit of a reminiscent, geeky post, so feel free to ignore it.
Another webm
Again here I come with my favourite new toy, webm videos.
This time from “Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san Z”
