Again, an aimless rant.
In my opinion, a solid 8/10.
Have to give them (a lot of) credit for being able to milk an entire season with nearly no semblance of a overarching plot. Looking forward to season 2.
And it still was fun. Despite being the weirdest fan service anime ever that doesn’t feel like one.

Zankyou no Terror
Short rambling post as usual, not a proper review or anything.
Also, Spoilers!!! 100% Spoiler, I pretty much just write the plot of the whole thing.
As usual I’m always late on anime, so I’m going to talk about anime from 2014. (could be worse…)
No ground-breaking opinion or insight, I just feel like writing a bit, it’s strangely cathartic.
Pretty decent anime.
7/10 at least
Since I haven’t paid much attention to anime in the last 3-4 years, I’m impervious to hype (which Zankyou no Terror had lots of)

My old classic is reborn
So, back when I was in school in programming class (IT in high school, dunno how it is in other countries, but here there are these courses in public school if you want to get specific knowledge of something before college, instead of going to 10th-12th grade of a generic curriculum, you can for 10th-12th grade in IT or Media and a few others, I think they have ended those since, pity)…
As I was saying…

So today…
…having nothing better to do, I finally downloaded Ren’Py and started playing around with it.
The downloading part I’ve done some…10 times by now.
But I never actually started putting something together.
Yesterday before going to sleep I spent an hour or so writing a bit (as I love to, although I rarely do it nowadays); some ideas, basic premise, a bit of dialogue.
A basic layout of the endings (3 good, 1 neutral, 4 bad).
Today I grabbed some sounds for the scene I wrote, mocked a background and went at it with Ren’Py…
So I guess I’m making a VN now. Yay, me!
Another project to end up in the garbage bin in two or three months. Because I haven’t had any of those in the last years.
Or will I finish this one?
Who knows…

Digital painting/drawing programs
Krita:
Slow as all hell in my PC at least, but seems pretty robust.
MyPaint:

Very barebones GUI (in my opinion), but fast and decent feature wise.
SmoothDraw:
Much like MyPaint, basic GUI, but with a good performance; seems to have less features than MyPaint.

I’ve known it for a while, actually I knew it when I first wrote this post, for some reason I forgot to include it, must have wanted all the alpacaey goodness for myself.
It’s a drawing software, that has an alpaca as mascot.
Great performance and relatively lightweight.
Even has an easy to use vanishing point feature so you get the perspective right.
My go-to for quick doodling (I suck at drawing, doodling is as far as I go)

Quick post: The Forest
Am I the only one who, while playing The Forest, every now and then just as he grabs two logs goes:
You’re Ahnold Schwarzenegger on steroids in…The Forest!
Why?
Because of this obviously:

There isn’t because FOX goes overkill and issues a world ban on their content on youtube it seems.
Even a 40 second clip of Commando (1985, with Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a threat to their plan of world domination, or their meagre profits…or something.
If you’ve watched that film, you know fully well the clip I’m referring to as it’s the only scene that involves Arnold carrying a log, if you haven’t watched it, it’s Arnold carrying a log on his shoulder…much like the main char in The Forest, except the The Forest char does two logs at a time. Hence “Ahnold on steroids”.
But isn’t “Ahnold on steroids” just the normal Arnold?
I almost confuse myself.
Suddenly…many survival games.
Really, out of nowhere there’s a wave of survival games (some more realistic and complex, others a bit less complex, but survival games nonetheless)
That I can recall right now:
- The long dark
- The forest
- Stranded deep
And there are probably more, I just haven’t come across them.
Ranty Rant: The Long Dark
Came across this one, mentioned by someone in 4chan’s /out/, had never heard of the game.
It’s one of those Indie games that somehow manage to sell an alpha version that may never reach Gold for the price of a full functioning game. Steam calls it “Early Access Game”, I call it beta testers and unlimited gameplay and design feedback, that pay for it.
Honestly that practice kind of rustles my jimmies.
At the same time it’s a smart move, reduce testing costs, lots of feedback and even gameplay ideas that will help you make the game more tailored to your average user, potentially enhancing the game experience (and getting you more sales, because an happy gamer is a valuable marketing tool). And best part, people pay for it…full price!
