So, I changed webhost again.
I either don’t change anything for years or I’m constantly jumping around webhosts.
This time was because the webhost I was using was supercheap, well the package that I was using was supercheap.
But it only had 1GB of space which considering my other stuff on the host, the backups and all that 1GB was too little.
So I decided to take advantage of the black Friday/cyber Monday offers to get something with more space.
Hope this new host works at least as well as the old one (where I honestly never had issues)
But this new host had a barrier to entry: on sign-up it didn’t accept the usual free domain names (.tk, .ml, etc.) and it didn’t accept my .eu.org
“Oh, shit…”
So I had to look around for the cheapest top level domain that wouldn’t cost me $15-$20 or more to renew in a year.
The choice fell on the .icu extension, on sale, cheap to register (was less than 2€) and the renewal wasn’t an affront to a budget minded person like me. (it shouldn’t be, I’ll find out the truth in a year)
I also considered the .eu, but the registration would be more expensive and the renewal not much cheaper than .icu.
And the .icu extension is kinda…cute?
I’m shit at english pronouncing, but I think icu can be read as an homophone of I.Q. (yes, I’m aware the official reading is I C U as in I see you, but for my little joke I CU would work better)
With me being a really high IQ individual, so high that I do online IQ tests, it sounding alike is extremely important and reflects how high brow and intellectual everything I do is.
It’s not like I have 69 as part of the URL. Ahhh…the nickname choices 13 year olds make and then saddle themselves with for nearly 20 years as of 2019.
And since my first language isn’t english when I read it it sounds like “E cu.” (“And ass.”) in portuguese, it’s even slightly more funny (and apt) that it’s also an homophone of the japanese iku.
Why funny and apt?
Apt:
to pass through; to come and go
Which is pretty much what I do on my site, I just pass by every now and then.
Funny:
to have an orgasm; to come; to cum
Ah, yes, my ever delightful lowbrow childish sense of humour.
Long story short:
New webhost, hope it works nicely for a long time.
I own a new domain name, but I doubt I’ll use it with the site. (too much hassle)
See you next time.
