No one missed it, except for me.
And that’s just fine.
When you get your hosting, make sure it’s not managed by people who already have a questionable history in the world of webhosting.
Suddenly both the shared hosting and my VPS were offline.
Even the VPS control panel was down, seemed like all the company’s servers went dark suddenly.
And after two days they weren’t back on, after some googling I found why.
The guys who ran the company were working for another hosting company and getting the servers with a employee discount.
While running a competing company.
And that’s just…questionable to say the least.
So the company they had the servers rented at just shut down the entire thing.
For future reference it was Alpharacks.
Hence, the hunt for the cheapest shared hosting I could find that wasn’t free began.
I keep telling myself that one of these days I’ll just grab a cheap dedicated server off OVH (I had a server with them way back when and had a good experience considering the price) and pay yearly, but since I’m a miser (tightwad, penny pincher, stingy…many other synonyms exist) I never do.
Partly because most of the projects I come up with that could use a dedicated server never leave the drawing board, so I can’t justify spending hundreds of euros per year just to host this site and a private forum that I use as a note taking place.
Nah, for that I’ll go at best up to 10€ a year.
Less if possible.
And yes, it’s very possible. (I normally shoot for <5€/year)
Ended up finding an extremely cheap host, only downside was that it only has 1GB of space, but that’s fine, I use less than 300MBytes.
So, yeah, site is in a new host again, let’s hope it lasts for a while.
