Finally I can restart my collection of midget erotic films from the 1930s or whatever it was that I had in that drive.
Ended up buying a used 500GB drive, finances are a bit tight to buy anything more expensive right now.
Arrived in a day, well packaged, everyone knows how much of a danger the postal services are to hard drives.
So I put it in the external case where I took the dead disk from.
And…:
Manufacture date: Jun/2018
No bad sectors.
Can’t complain for 19€.
Although now that I’m copying stuff to it I found out the other 2.5″ case decided to die, same problem as the previous one, stopped working in USB 2.0 speeds. Thought it could be just the USB cable, no such luck.
Have to buy another case.
It never ends…buying, buying, buying…spending money I barely have on shit that I need.
That being said, the 2.5″case to replace the first one that died arrived, I’ve been buying shit from China for…over a decade.
This one was a new record, took 10 days to arrive, with a weekend in the middle.
Either China is physically getting closer to me or the postal services are becoming more efficient.
Also, good old Chinese, always up to cut on costs.
The old case was metal (thin aluminium or something), the new one is plastic. Cheaper is better.
And even the frigging USB cable is shorter by some 4cm, it barely reaches the nearest flat surface where I put the cases on. Cut on costs, cut on everything!
But it works, can’t argue with results.
Well, let’s hope both the new disk and the 2.5″ case last as long as the old ones.
