Retro Style, part 2 – books

Still haven’t decided what to do about my main computer.
Plan B of buying an old Atom itx board to use as a Linux LAN server/temporary shitposting machine is still a possibility.

450 words

I even thought about the possibility of buying a cheap 7 inch tablet, but the extra capabilities of an Atom (sweet, sweet x86/x64 + sweet decent monitor) made it sound like a really dumb idea.

So, seeing that I have yet to get a replacement motherboard or buy a new computer altogether, what have I been doing while having fun LARPing as a 1980s computer user?
Books.
Listening to.
Books, audio books.
(Music too, but that wouldn’t make for much content on this post)

Believe me, my “To read” list is big!
(Well, the actual list is small as I never bother to write down names of books and many of the ones I wrote the name of are too obscure to have an audio version unfortunately; but the “To read” list in my brain is huge)

And the books being audio is nice as I can listen to them while doing something else. (like listening to Jurassic Park while replacing my car’s alternator, wireless headphones are the best thing since sliced bread)

Current list of books listened to:
Metro 2033 − Quite decent. Might go and do 2034 and 2035. 7/10
Roadside Picnic − Happiness for everyone!! Quite nice. 7/10
On the beach − Listened to the audio drama version by the BBC. It was interesting, that’s for sure. And not stupidly long. 7/10
Starship Troopers − After watching the shitty animation series (the 3D one from the late 90s) and the movie. (and kinda liking them) I finally did the book. Much better than any of the other, I would even say the book makes the entire universe different from the movie or the animation. Good book.
8/10, would listen to again.
Jurassic Park − 10^3 times better than the movie. Much more stuff going on in the plot. If I were Tim, I would have drowned Lex in a bucket of water at the first opportunity for how fucking annoying she was.
8/10

I have also been writing (something I used to do more regularly three years ago) quite a bit more, which means a few of my never ending projects (as in projects that will never have an end and serve only to waste time) have been making slow progress.

I guess that in the end I’m forced to come to the conclusion that I became more productive by LARPing as a 1980s nerd.
Started taking care of my “To read” list (not all of it is taken care of, but I’ll get there), started taking care of my “To write” list. Not too shabby.
