Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri

Again, an aimless rant.

In my opinion, a solid 8/10.
Have to give them (a lot of) credit for being able to milk an entire season with nearly no semblance of a overarching plot. Looking forward to season 2.

And it still was fun. Despite being the weirdest fan service anime ever that doesn’t feel like one.

(290 words of pure rant)

First the hero, Itami, an army guy who proudly only works so he’s able to support his hobby: being a complete otaku. (they know their target audience)
We later learn he was married (wasn’t expecting that one either) but got a divorce.

He is joined by Kurata, who is also in the army and is also an otaku. As you would guess they get along just fine.

Then, the girls, with such amusing names as:

Lelei La Lelena, a human teenager mahō shōjo from the other world with deep blue eyes and blue hair.

Rory Mercury, a gothic loli demigod who is over 900 years old and wields a huge as fuck axe.

Tuka Luna Marso, a blonde elf girl, who is 100 and something years old.

And my favourite name (despite not being one of the main girls):

Pina Colada, a princess from the other world who is the leader of a knight order that she founded. Oh, she’s also a Fujoshi, together with Bozes Co Palesty who is one of her knights and friend.

The mix of medieval style civilization (obviously with the usual fantasy tones) vs modern day Japan is interesting.
For example, the reaction of Pina Colada when she saw an attack helicopter doing what it does, was in my opinion somewhat thought provoking.

Really good anime if you like a fantasy setting. (yeah…wrote too much in the last post and got bored in this one)
