So, sometime ago I alluded to the fact that I did “no budget” short films with a friend or two to waste free time.
I also whined like hell about youtube’s copyright ‘system’
And today, simply by chance I logged in into the youtube account I use for the shorts.
Imagine my surprise (not really…but…) upon seeing a claim on a video I was 100% sure everything was CC-BY and all the credits were there, right at the end of the short.
So I clicked the claim, you know, because I’m really curious about what was wrong this time (I had already seen copyright claims due to generic samples and claims for public domain recordings, I was really curious what new critter I would find this time)
And I did find a fun critter…
One I couldn’t imagine as I have…well, something that is out of fashion, namely, principles.
Turns out the asshat who did that track originally had released it under CC-BY, somewhere along the way (must have been in the last 6 months) he changed his mind and went around deleting all the pages that had his music as CC-BY, so there’s no trace of the f*cking things being licensed under CC. (for example a Jamendo page for the album that had been there since 2008, fast forward to 2014 and it was gone)
Lovely jackass.
Well, almost all, the swine head (can you tell I get a bit miffed with copyright claims on youtube?) missed archive.org.
And since I love being an annoying prick, in case someone comes across this post:
The jackass is GeoSuPhat (aka George Pierce Peterson ) who is supposedly signed with Togeo Music label.
Funny that togeomusic domain has a certain “Tobias Peterson” as registrant. No problem, could be a brother or cousin, hey family business, fine.
Oh, wait…check the contact email
gpp…gppeterson , could that be “George Pierce Peterson” ? So I take that’s his personal music label. You sneaky bastard.
If the guy comes across this (or anyone who is going all “free market”or “it’s his property” while reading my rant), I have nothing against someone trying to earn some money doing shitty generic electronic music, I just have with people changing the fucking license of the works after releasing them. (that’s where the “having principles” thing comes in)
Dunno if I’m going to hassle with changing the music as it fits that part of the short really nicely…so it would take me a few minutes to find a replacement track.
Or I might…out of principle.
That is all.
