Remember kids, don’t just copy and paste code/wordpress tags from somewhere, more often than not it has typos and/or replaced characters.
Case in point: <!–nextpage–>
Spent over 30 minutes around the darn thing yesterday, until I just said “Fuck it!”, just to figure out that, I’ll hazard a guess, the post editor of the website I copied the darn tag from had replaced characters…by other characters that (if you’re distracted, not really thinking about it or near-sighted) look exactly the same.
Bear with me…it’s 3AM and you’re writing a post about a VN, after reading said VN, your eyes are tired and you’re transcribing it from handwritten text (written with a pencil, not ink, hence slightly worse for low light conditions/tired eyes). The background of the wordpress editor is white, so with your tired eyes it’s like someone is punching you in the eyes every 15 seconds and you want to add a new page to the post. (two different routes on the VN that I wanted to discuss, as the first was already >1000 words and with images and all was getting fairly long, I decided that a dedicated page for each route would be better)
Having used wordpress for…six years?! yet not really using much of the advanced options as until recently all your posts were on the content level of drunken tirades, you go and search google for how to do the multi page post thing, “<!–nextpage–>” something on an official wordpress site says, so you copy and paste it on the post, preview and…nothing. (to help you, the fucking editor doesn’t have a button for it…but I now know it has a keyboard shortcut: Alt+shift+P…that right now for some reason is publishing the article at the same time it adds the page break, that’s wordpress for you, a small digital twilight zone, you can even sometimes hear Rod Serling narrating the intro as background noise)
TL;DR: Eyes and mind tired as shit, this wild shitty copy/paste appears:
What the hell is wrong with it? Can you guess? Me neither. Let me give you some help and put the right way and the wrong way side by side. (well, one above the other)
Notice that while I’m stupid enough not to find the error, I wasn’t stupid enough to paste a tag in the “Visual” mode of the editor, so that possibility was thrown out right at the start.

Many things go through one’s mind, but none of them are the answer.
The top one is the right way. For you reader it was obvious, as I had provided an image of the “wild” wrong tag and then one purported to have the wrong way and the right way.
I, at 3AM with my tired eyes and nearly shut off mind, did not.
But all’s well that ends well.
So, the lesson today is, write wordpress tags, don’t copy/paste.
Or at least stash the correctly written ones in a plain text file, instead of relying on a webpage that you found on google.
On other completely uninteresting topics, my webhost suddenly disabled 1 click backups. Great…and I can’t even complain because it’s a free host. I might be moving the site…again.
