So I want to be a writer…

(no, I don’t)

But as I probably already alluded to somewhere in the blog/site/webthingie, I like to imagine stuff, hence most of my (now very dead) video game projects had quite a ratio of “plan pages” vs “work done”.

What am I up to now?

Nothing that will ever see the light of day, because:

  1. Writing in my native language (in which I astonishingly have a less intricate vocabulary than in English, and my english is by no means an example to anyone)
  2. I’m doing it just for fun

So what is it?

Well, among the plans for various video games (and video game like things, e.g. ADVs/Visual novels), I had at least three zombie themed ones:

A really short flash ADV, which I thought up back in…some four or six years ago, after playing something of the same style at newgrounds (of which I’ve been a member since 2002, I love to give useless info)

One that was thought up back in 2011 to be made using Ren’Py, which was basically using the places around me as base map for a ADV that can be summed up as: “I’m at work and the zombies cometh, where’s the nearest castle? That’s where I’m going!”

And a third one that I started writing in 2010, then abandoned.

So, it’s well established that I like zombies (and yes, I’m a lurker at zombiehunters.org , before someone wonders) and it’s well established that I like to write (both the writing by hand itself and the creative process associated with it).

What better small, fun, time killing project than a zombie short story being written ad hoc? None! Loosely base the ‘world map’ on my town and every now and then when I pick a pen and the notepad I write a paragraph or two. And while trying to write it as realistically as I can without spending time on research, hence it’s ‘common sense’ realistic, not necessarily hard science realistic, I don’t really care much about details, I’m more trying to flesh out believable characters than believable scenarios. Example? The zombies are ‘created’ due to some sort of virus of bacteria (cliché? well, fucking obviously it is), where did it come from? How? Why my town as the first victim? And how is the narrator narrating this stuff if the Zeds are out and about?

Where did it come from? Brazil. (yes, wikipedia also told me they aren’t that big of a producer of cashews, but that’s how it is)

How? Shipment of cashews. (true story, bro)

Why here? Said shipment was to be sold at nearby tourist spots.

How is the narrator narrating? The Zs were brought under some control and their expansion limited, hence scientists are investigating the whole mess and survivors were evacuated to safe places. (and I just made this up on the spot, while writing this post, had never really thought about it, all that I knew is that the main character didn’t die and was telling his story)

And it’s kinda fun to write this, sometimes I have a bit of a hard time falling asleep, grab the notepad and pen and “let me read the last paragraphs…oh, the guy is back home…he feels somewhat safe and is grabbing some gear to bug out. Well my friend, I’m screwing you, you’ll fall asleep on your bed due to mental exhaustion and then you’ll be awaken by a loud noise at the door.”

I’m obviously fully aware that the whole thing when finished will be shit tier. May I be positively influenced by 4chan’s /out/, /k/ and /pol/. (think about it, innawoods, no guns, local breakdown, what may my character find in his adventure?)

And yes, I lurk on those three boards at 4chan.

Although that now that I think about it, /pol/ may not have too much influence, the ‘apocalypse’ is local to a town of 50k inhabitants, not much room for /pol/ things. (be it ‘chimpouts’ or strange authoritarian cults)

I’ll see how it will go…and you guys won’t (see it, that is).

That’s all folks.
