I got rid of my old and very very slow GeForce 8500GT (with a 64 bit memory bus, which basically meant it was a rebadged 8400GS) and got an equally old, cheap but not so slow Radeon HD3850 (only 256MB of ram, but that’s what I could find on my nearly non existing budget).
Which means I can play games again. Sure, it is still and old and outdated graphic card, but it’s night and day performance wise.
So, right now I’m playing the Mass Effect series (about which I’ll write a couple of rants).
Next on the “to play” list are such games as:
- TES5: Skyrim
- Alan Wake (just as TES5, says minimum GFX ram is 512MB, but I tried it with the 8500GT and it ran…crawled…it was a slideshow as crawling implies a bit of fluidity of movement)
- L.A. Noire
And many others…that I can’t recall right now, but I’m sure I’ll remember the names soon enough.
Oh…and Unity also got a lot smoother. Yes, I still play around with it every now and then, I still believe one day I’ll finish a game. Although due to the way I work on my idiot game projects I believe I’ll end up releasing 4 or 5 games at nearly the same time; I always do a little bit on one project, then jump to another, then to another, and so on so forth.
Now that I got rid of it (8500GT) and am using the HD3850 for a week or two, I ask myself: How the hell did I use that graphic card for three years? No idea…
That’s all for now, more rants to come.
