The (not so) amusing ramblings…

…of someone who compiles Blender from the svn.

So, yesterday I decided that I wanted to use VC++ 2010 Express to compile blender, instead of 2008 and off I went, installed all the stuff (WinSDK 7.1 took a bit of work to get working) and…

Scons didn’t work with 2010…OK, off to CMake and…it kinda worked.

“Kinda worked?? It either works or it doesn’t!”

Yeah…things are not so black and white in this case. Out of at least 20 blender files I tried (including my first model made in Blender) one of them (the latest model I did) doesn’t work, it opens all right and then…puff…no geometry is displayed and every now and then the camera “icon” on the 3D view simply vanishes, everything is still there, not hidden, I can even enter “Edit Mode” but still, no geometry. Tried a version from Blender’s BuildBot and everything works, tried Official 2.60a all great, my latest build using Scons, all fine. The Build using VC++2010? No geometry.

And the worst part? Can’t get it to work with VC++ 2008 and Scons again.

*edit*
Ah, got 2010 and Scons to work, had OpenMP enabled, strange because it worked on 2008.

*edit 2*
Lies…It gives out an error.

*edit 3*
1 day (and a few builds) later the non-working file is working again, still no fucking clue…
