For me to post about the announcement of the release date for Duke Nukem Forever.
Watched the trailer over 10 times. And it looks like they DID actually manage to ‘remake’ Duke, even in this day and age, where censorship and “political correctness” run rampant, especially on the video game world.
Nudity, over the top gore, ‘low level’ jokes, little to no storyline. It’s all there, all the things most self proclaimed ‘game design specialists’ say is a big no-no on modern games, their explanation why it’s a no-no: “Because…hrrmmm…because we are politically correct god damnit! We have grown past the low level teenage humour, because we’re adults, at least ‘someone’ or ‘something’ told us we were adults. If you continue this conversation I’ll stop playing!” (hope you understand what I mean).
This is something I think is wrong, very wrong on society nowadays, it seems like ‘being an adult’ doesn’t mean being responsible, educated, understanding, etc.; it simply means ‘no more fun in any way, shape or form’, constant business like behaviour 24/7, society tries to force you to stop liking stuff, even if you still like it.
Take Duke Nukem as an example, lot’s of adults still find it fun, but the whole game industry — ok, at least 90% — is hell bent on saying this kind of game is wrong, bad, crappy, shitty, low-level and does not conform with the ‘standards’ of what people want. I suspect the ‘standards’ that are not met are the ones of political correctness. What the hell do I mean? Well, look at Hollywood films, when was the last gore film released? Hell, let’s go into something even simpler, the last one that showed boobs, simply because they could?
“Oh, but that’s not what people want nowadays.”
How the hell do you know? (And by you I mean the guys who make stuff, not you ‘the reader’) You haven’t released any of those in what? 15-20 years?
“Oh, the statistics say…”
One single sentence: “Lies, damned lies, and statistics”, it still holds true today.
And…I don’t feel like writing more.
