So, working on a sniper game, where I have to 3d model a small city environment – which includes endless loads of little objects and all that – what did I waste hours modeling?
An excavator…
Why? because I can…that and because I want to leave a bit of city to be a construction zone or I would die of boredom due to modeling and placing god knows how many buildings. Making one single building is boredom enough for 1 week, thank you.
For…the second time ever I’ll show the world one of my crappy 3D models.
3250 tris, I would guess at least half of them are wasted in a very wrong way…
Now I have to do the worst part…texturing it.
Also made the zoom script, now I need to put a sniper reticle on the screen.
Which wouldn’t be hard, if things didn’t have this strange need to behave a different way, every time I use them.
For some reason the GUITexture with the reticle just stays there, doesn’t follow the mouse, which is interesting since in my other project the crosshair works perfectly. *edit* strangely enough, it works now…*edit*
Since I divided work into two different scenes on Unity – one for the map construction, other for weapon testing – it seems to be easier to make nice progress, although at the end it’ll end up being very confusing to ‘merge’ both scenes .
Even worse, as soon as Unity 3.0 is released I’ll move both of my game projects to the new version, which might be easy or might be impossible.
Talking about Unity 3.0, it would be nice if they would at least tell us a ‘semi-final’ feature delta between Pro and the free version. Because I sure as hell am counting on being able to use Beast, and am hopeful that I’ll be able to use Umbra. Only time will answer that.
