Yeah, you know, luck and all that.
My main computer motherboard blew…again.
Thing died in January and I’ve been using a 10 year old laptop since. (with a Pentium T2080, I had to upgrade it, will post something about that probably)
And again, just like last time I’m stuck with having a perfectly usable processor (Phenom II 1090T) but a blown motherboard.
But unlike the used market on 775 motherboards, the used market on AM3/AM3+ motherboard is pretty decent.
While used low end 775 boards had an asking price over 60€ (and those were the ones that were so old that they didn’t support Core2Duo processors) and new ones were ≈75€. This for completely low end stuff. (micro atx, 1x PCI-E x16, some even with just 2 slots of RAM)
On the other hand the AM3 motherboard market is much more sensible with decent used motherboards (2x PCI-E x16 slots, 4 slots of RAM, etc.) being found at around 50€ (with shipping) and new ones being around 75-80€ (also with shipping)
So yeah, I went the used motherboard route and for 45€ got what seems to be a decent board.
I say seems because it still hasn’t arrived.
Will I get another board that dies within 2 years? Will I get one like my old 775 motherboard that lasted for 8 years before blowing up? I dunno, but I will find out.
